About

Chimes has served the Calvin College community since 1907. It began as a monthly publication focused more on literary review and writing than on reporting news. After WWII, Chimes made the switch to a weekly newspaper. Since then it has chronicled many changes in the college and in the world around it.

Calvin’s campus has moved out of its original urban setting, and the make-up of its population has shifted away from its homogenous Dutch CRC heritage. Chimes also has changed, but its character has remained remarkably similar across more than one hundred years of publication. It has consistently challenged the Calvin community to live out what it claims to be: a reformed Christian community.

Created by students for students, Chimes provides a venue for the discussion of issues, events and ideas as we work out what we believe the world should look like and what we can do to make it better.

This website was designed by Scott Admiraal, a 2006 Chimes alumnus. New issues are generally posted on Friday when they are distributed.
