STUDENT SENATE CANDIDATES CAMPAIGN FOR POSITIONS

CJ Albertie
Experience and Initiative. As a two year member of Senate with executive team experience, by being reelected to Senate I can continue to work extensively on behalf of student concerns such as the parking problem and increased library access. Even the Student Senate needs a CJ!
Peter Bratt
I am running for Student Senate because I want to serve my fellow students and to make the Student Senate more important and influential in the affairs of Calvin. I want the Student Senate to work with the administration and faculty and ensure positive changes for the student body as a whole.
Steve Bulthuis
I believe that through the past year I have obtained a good handle on the current issues. I am excited to work for the students next year and work to improve communication. When you go to the polls, go with experience.
Wendell Hiltsley
Student Senate: Does it accomplish anything? I was very honored to be one of your representatives this past year. One of the major things that I and my team accomplished was the increase in open house hours. I am Wendell. I come from Vermont and will be a sophomore this coming year. I look forward to being your representative next year, and I hope that my experience from this past year will serve Calvin once again.
Faith Jones
I am interested in running for Student Senate so that I can represent you. I’d like to see more communication between the Senate and student body as well as between the many different organizations on campus. I would like to see the campus work together in both student-run organizations and student life organizations. I am currently a sophomore political science and psychology double major, a native of Chicago’s inner city, a multicultural board member, an admissions assistant and your candidate for Student Senate. Vote for the candidate you can really have Faith in.
Doug Kanis
I think that the experience I gained serving on Student Senate this year would be beneficial on Student Senate next year. I know that I will be an excellent advocate for student interests, attempt to make more connections, and continue to work hard for you in the future.
Lauralee Kroonenberg
I am a sophomore and an elementary education major. I am excited for senate because I love listening to others ideas and using my own ideas to accomplish positive results. I love to have fun and hope that I can be trusted to make decisions that can benefit everyone.
Gloriana Kuswanto
I would like to build a bridge, not because I’m an engineering major, but because I think that the main purpose of a senator is to be a representative voice. In high school I was involved in a lot of organizational activities. As an international student, I hope to bring a different perspective on things. My job is to make sure your opinions are heard and I’ll do my best to ensure that.
Karen Maylone
Hi, my name is Karen Maylone. I will be a junior next year and will continue to pursue my degree in English. I have been a member of the 1998/99 Student Senate and have helped to bring about changes: open house hours, the debit plan, and the all-campus list serve. I am interested in finding out just what the student would like to see changed at Calvin, and would like to use my prior senate experience to achieve that.
Sarah Potter
It might seem pretty random that the Chimes Editor is running for Senate. I’ve dedicated my life to communication on this campus for the last three years, and am going to have a lot of “spare time” next year without Chimes. Senate is the perfect opportunity for me to fight student apathy and create opportunities for students to become involved. As someone in student media, it has been crucial for me to understand how this college works. I have proved that I can do this through Chimes- now let me use my “spare time” in Student Senate.
Austin Stoub
My name is Austin Stoub and I am a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois. I want to be on Student Senate because I feel I can accurately represent the Calvin student body. Having served on Student Senate previously, I have experience and am looking forward to serving again.
Steve Triezenberg
I am interested in Senate because I want to be involved in the decision making and strategic planning of student affairs at Calvin. My major is accounting and I enjoy being in charge of making decisions. I enjoy responsibility in addition to working with people. I enjoy going to Calvin College and I want to be a part of making it even better.
Jackson Vink
My name is Jackson. I’m a political science major who enjoys Calvin. I see myself as an open-minded, fresh perspective with a little Canadian influence.
Elizabeth Wassenaar
I am a sophomore biology major serving on Senate this year. I am excited about returning to Senate for a second year. This year my team has been busy working on getting the library open on Sunday, a project I am anxious to continue next year.
Michael Wright
Ni hao! My name is Michael Wright. I am 19 years old, a SWM. I am a NS who is in search of a fun-loving SF who likes Ultimate Frisbee and in-line skating. Honestly, I am already involved with the Admissions Office and the Big Brother program. If you give me the opportunity to be involved as a Student Senator, I promise to devote myself fully to serving you, the Calvin student.

Voting for the 1999-2000 Student Senate will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in both the library lobby and Johnny’s.
