EDITORIAL NOTES

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR must include the writer’s name and class. Letters received without a name will not be printed unless the writer requests anonymity. Letters will be edited for clarity and brevity, and should be no more than 250 words. The deadline for letters is 5:00 p.m. on Monday for print on the following Friday. Send Letters to the Editor via ICM to: Chimes, attn. Letters to the Editor.

CALENDAR & ANNOUNCEMENTS submissions must be sent in by 5:00 p.m. on Monday for print on the following Friday. E-mail the date, time, place, name of the event and contact information to chimes@calvin.edu. Extra information will only be included on the calendar if basic information does not identify an event sufficiently.

If you’re intrested in writing, editing, graphic design or simply have questions about being involved please let us know. You can contact us by sending an e-mail to chimes@calvin.edu, calling our office at x7031 or by stopping by and visiting us in the Common’s Annex.

THE CHIMES MISSION STATEMENT: --To serve the greater Calvin College community, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, by informing the community of events and promoting the integration of learning, living and faith. --To be a watchdog of the community, serving as part of the checks and balance system of a community interested in constant growth. Chimes hopes to critically evaluate and challenge the greater Calvin community. --To encourage unity and involvement in the community. Chimes serves as an open forum for the discussion of various issues related to Calvin and society in general. Chimes benefits both the producers and the readers of Chimes by providing a round table for constant discussion. --To train students and give them practical experience in the field of journalism. Part of the mission of Chimes is to cultivate strong journalists and prepare them for careers in media-related fields by giving them a real world, hands-on experience, similar to an internship.
