Marv Zuidema, who coached the men’s soccer team for 36 of its 39 seasons, was recently selected as this year’s winner of the Bill Jeffrey Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for his contribution to college soccer.

Zuidema took over the men’s soccer team in 1961, two years after its inception, and compiled a record of 341-175-48 before stepping down after the 1997 season. He currently serves asmen’s athletic director.

Zuidema was the first collegiate soccer coach in Michigan to reach 300 wins. He also established the NSCAA’s Team Ethics Award for teams with the fewest yellow cards.

Zuidema is the 27th recipient of the prestigious award named for the Penn State coach.
