WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Calvin hosted the prestigious Midwest Invitational last Friday and Saturday at the Fieldhouse. On Friday, the team handily defeated both Olivet and St. Mary’s College. On Saturday, Calvin lost to Wittenberg but bounced back to beat Bluffton, which put them in third place for the tournament. Senior Erika Van Stralen was named to the Midwest All-tournament team, while junior Erin Hall came within 75 assists of breaking the school record for total assists over the course of the season. Last night the team hosted Hope College, but results were not available at release time.

CROSS COUNTRY
Both the women’s and men’s cross country teams brought home MIAA champions last weekend, marking the tenth straight title for the women, and the eleventh straight title for the men. Sophomore Lisa Timmer and junior Kent Frens claimed individual conference championships, both being named MIAA MVP’s. Next up for the Knights is the regional competition, to be held at Rose-Hulman College in Indiana, on November 15th.

SWIMMING
The men’s and women’s swim teams opened up the 1997-1998 season at the Grand Valley State Relays last Saturday. The men’s team took first place out of five teams, represented by both Division III and Division II. Eight swimmers representing Calvin formed 10 relays, placing first in seven events. The women’s team placed third overall in the meet, and set three new meet records in three of the relays.
