Promise Keepers presses old theme

Promises meant to be kept come out of D.C.

Calvin students and Grand Rapids community members gathered in the Commons Lecture Hall to take part via satellite in the Promise Keepers rally held in Washington, D.C. last Saturday.

This past weekend thousands of Christian men from across the country packed into planes, trains, and automobiles and headed for the nation’s capital to participate in a national assembly exclusively for men.

The “sacred assembly” organized by the men’s group Promise Keepers drew an estimated 500,000 men, though the numbers remain nebulous. The men gathered for six hours on the Mall for a time of intense prayer, praise and reconciliation.

Two bucks won’t buy much anymore

Movies at Woodland theater closed on October 2nd, much to the chagrin of students everywhere.

The Movies at Woodland theater sold its last tickets on the first of October. Those who went to the movie theater Wednesday night were among the last to enjoy a second-run movie on the silver screen anywhere on the south side of Grand Rapids.

Hope no match for Calvin women’s soccer team

Doris DeBoer, a Grand Rapids native, has worked at the Calvin bookstore for 22 years.

The women’s soccer team did not take any prisoners last Saturday as they beat visiting Hope College in a much-anticipated battle of rivals. The victory marks Calvin’s tenth consecutive win for the season, while Hope has fallen to 8-3.
