Deans shuffle offices in Residence Life
Calvin administrators have not shuffled like this since President Gaylen Byker memorably graced the Airband stage with his antics last spring. Jane Hendriksma, formerly the dean of residence life, is now Dean of Students for Judicial Affairs, a new position created specifically to deal with discipline issues among both on-campus and off-campus students. John Witte, formerly associate dean of residence life, will become the new Dean of Residence Life. Hendriksma takes on a position that will see her continuing many of her current duties. Witte praised her, saying her hard work has benefited Residence Life.

Love is in the air and on the stage
It is spring again. Love is in the air and on the stage at Calvin College. The Calvin Theatre Company opened their final production of the season last night with “Emma.” Show times are 8 p.m., April 3-5 and April 10-12 in the Gezon Auditorium. This adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel, and this production in particular, is very much a storytelling event. The publicity for this show has indicated that “Emma” is told through Jane Austen’s eyes. On the lovely posters around campus, audiences have already observed an image of Emma inside the famous Jane Austen silhouette.

'Messiah' reduced to single show
The Calvin Oratorio Society will be singing “The Hallelujah Chorus” a little bit differently this Christmas. Due to a scheduling conflict with the Grand Rapids Ballet Company’s 2003 performances of “The Nutcracker,” the Oratorio Society had to negotiate to schedule its annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at DeVos Hall in downtown Grand Rapids. Under a decision reached March 26 by the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority, the four main users of DeVos Hall—Broadway Theatre Guild, the Grand Rapids Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids and the ballet company—must allow the society to perform “Messiah” at the hall through 2007.
