Hope edges Calvin in overtime thriller
The Calvin men’s basketball season came to a tantalizing conclusion last Friday night. The Knights (7-5, 3rd) traveled to Albion College to take on archrival Hope College (10-2, 2nd) in the first of two semifinal matches of the MIAA Championships scheduled for Feb. 28. Before we follow our beloved team to the game, let me take you back to Thursday, Feb. 27th, 3:30 pm on the main court in the Calvin Fieldhouse. The men’s varsity team is spread around the gym, shooting, stretching and talking about the upcoming game. Coach Kevin Vande Streek comes to center court, blows his whistle and begins practice.

Faculty Senate convenes for monthly meeting
The Faculty Senate convened for its monthly meeting on Monday to discuss issues of faculty advisors, a proposed chapel extension that has been discussed on and off throughout the year, and a revitalization of Calvin’s tuition gift certificate policy. President Gaylen Byker, the president of the Senate, opened the meeting with a discussion of the issue of faculty advisors.

CIA nabs top al Qaeda suspect
Alleged Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was apprehended in Pakistan Saturday, in what has been hailed as the biggest catch so far in the global war on terrorism. Mohammed, considered the most senior Al Qaeda operative after Osama bin Laden and Egyptian Ayman al-Zawahiri, was arrested in a predawn raid in Rawalpindi, near the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, along with two other suspected Al Qaeda members. The operation was coordinated jointly by both U.S. and Pakistani agents.
