Senate Corner
In my years at Calvin I have heard many positive things about this place. I am sure all of us have. The fact that we are attending this school is a statement that we believe the positive aspects outweigh the negative aspects. The opportunity cost of going here is not too high (work with me, I have taken one too many economics classes). However, there are also things about Calvin that are not so good. We all complain about these things from time to time, but how often have you actually done something about them? If you want the chance to try your hand at making a positive change at Calvin, you have an opportunity to try. It's election time again! If you want to make a change, run for Student Senate! Twelve current students will be elected as senators this spring and four incoming freshmen will be added in the fall. If you want the chance to make a change here, pick up an application in the Senate office today. Take some time to prayerfully consider running. Nominating petitions containing the signatures of one hundred of your closest friends are due on Monday.
Maybe running for Student Senate is not your thing. If that is the case, you can still make your voice heard by voting in the upcoming elections. Executive team elections are today. There are two teams running this year. One team consists of Betsy Cooper, Susan Sytsma and Bob Vryhof. The other team is Omar Guzman, Kim Schaver, and Erin McGuire. Senator elections will be held on April 26. You will also have the chance to vote on some other important items. The constitution has been updated again this year, and if it is approved by Senate on Thursday it will be up for approval by the student body. Senate also approved some big changes to the position of Finance Chair at last week's meeting. These changes basically free the Finance Chair of some Senate responsibilities and give the chair more time to devote to student organizations. If you want to see positive changes made at Calvin, voice your opinions! Vote online at:

Have a great weekend, and remember to vote today!
