Senate Corner
Hello Calvin! I hope that this semester is going all right for you all as it is nearly one quarter of the way over. Spring break is upon us in three weeks, good weather is around the corner, and before you know it, school will be out for the summer. This time of year is really fun as the weather in Michigan is uncertain from day to day and the seasons are changing. Along that line, Student Senate is changing too.
You read last week that our former Vice President, Karissa deKoning, has resigned and this week we have a new Vice President, Omar Guzman. He was on Student Senate last year, but was not voted in this year; however, once he heard of the position of the Vice President opening he decided to try for it and is now in Student Senate again. Omar is a good man for the position and will help represent the student body in all that Student Senate does.
Speaking of what Student Senate does, we are working on some amazing projects that would interest any student. My team, the Communications and Media Team, is currently working on getting our pictures and names up on the bulletin boards in the dorms for the respective constituencies that we represent. We are also working on leading a chapel sometime this semester as a Student Senate.
Other projects that Senate is working on include trying to bring FindHousing.com to the Calvin community, and investigating a frisbee course alternative design. Senate is also working on redoing the discount cards, getting new businesses or making sure the current ones would still like to be on it.
We are looking into the blue safety poles to see if Calvin should get more of them or if the quantity is sufficient. These are some of the projects that Student Senate is working on for the benefit of Calvin's student population. If there is anything else you think we should work on or look into for you, you can email us at senate@calvin.edu. We are here to serve your best interests.
Well, that's about it from you Student Senate for the week. In the remaining time this semester, there will be many more projects to come, things to do, and people to talk to. Feel free to stop in and say hello anytime you pass by the office in the common annex. Study hard but not too much. Work hard but have fun. Have a good weekend and we'll see you all around campus.
