Last Friday, colorful international costumes brightened Calvin's campus, and the international students who wore them would reply when asked for the reason of their attire, ``Come to Rangeela.''

This year, on Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, at 8 pm, the International students will put on two shows. For the last four years, every show has been sold out. Thus, in an attempt to be able to accommodate enough people, the Rangeela committee has decided to hold the show for two nights, for first time ever.

The show is divided into two parts: the twelve acts and the fashion show. For the acts, the three MCs are Nateisha Decruz of India, Maxine Bent of Nicaragua, and Yaw Bediako of Ghana. For the fashion show, the MCs are Nana Awuah-Nyamekye of Ghana and Attah Obande of Nigeria.

Diverse countries and regions are represented in the twelve acts: India, China, Korea, Japan, Latin America, and Africa. For the first time, a new act comprising multiple cultures put together will be performed. This will be in the beginning to symbolize how all cultures are united under the Rangeela show. The acts include dances, skits, and musical performances. Each act will be preceeded by a brief introduction to help the audience appreciate the acts to their fullest. At the end, the fashion show will take place on stage, displaying the colorful costumes.

Audience participation is greatly encouraged by the committee. ``Come with appreciation for learning something new,'' said Herta Boakye-Yiadom, one of the committee members. ``Come with a lot of hype. We always encourage the audience involvement.''

The Rangeela committee has several goals in putting the shows together. Boakye-Yiadom said, ``It is important because city of Grand Rapids is not so diverse. If we could start diversifying a small part of Grand Rapids, Calvin, then we can educate a large population of people about different countries and different culture.''

The advertising reached the whole Grand Rapids community, and even as far as Holland and Zeeland. The off-campus advertisements this year are reaching farther than ever before in previous years.

``We want to include the whole community of Grand Rapids,'' said Boakye-Yiadom.

The committee feels that diversity is something that everyone should experience, as 51 countries are represented in Calvin student body. ``It's important for Rangeela to take place every year to remind everyone that International students make up an important part of Calvin and enrich Calvin in many ways,'' said Peterson.

The tickets are on sale at the box office, and from the committee members carrying them around campus. Tickets are three dollars for students and four dollars for adults.
