Students' opinion: KnightCare a nightmare
Students who put off submitting the KnightCare waiver may be surprised to learn that they are too late to avoid the $450 insurance fee. The deadline for insurance wavers was four days ago, Tuesday Oct. 15. KnightCare health insurance is mandatory for all students not covered through alternate means. Most students should not be surprised, considering this is the third year that Calvin has required all students to receive health insurance. But freshmen, transfers and other student out of the loop might be.

Prayer for peace in world
In the midst of uncertainty over world events, people from around Calvin gathered in the chapel last Friday afternoon to pray for peace. “Part of it was a chance to pause from our busyness to acknowledge these events in the world, and part of it was a call,” said Dean of the Chapel John Witvliet. ‘Though it is very easy to live in the sunny cocoon of a Christian college, our faith calls us to do more.” The service was scheduled “because of the Congressional vote [on going to war with Iraq], and we didn’t want to wait,” Witvliet said.

Fieldhouse to receive a fitness facelift
The Calvin campus isn’t only stepping east of the Beltline; it is also making steps to renovate some of its older landmarks. Plans are currently being drafted to expand the physical education building, more commonly referred to as the Fieldhouse. “There are two parts to this project,” said Men’s Athletic Director Marv Zuidema. “One is an expansion of the physical education building; the second is the capital improvement of the outdoor facilities.”
