One of the most powerful and influential men in the country will speak at graduation this year. The Honorable William Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, will come to Grand Rapids to deliver the Commencement 2001 speech.

Justice Rehnquist was invited to speak at commencement after declining an earlier offer to speak at the January Series. President Byker sent Justice Rehnquist a request to speak, and the college was informed later that Rehnquist would accept.

Dance Guild Does It Again


With Napster a shell of its former self - filters and court orders threatening the system daily – digital music collectors are scrambling to find new ways to expand their grey-market audio empires. For Calvin students, there is a fast and easy new tool: it’s called Calster.

Developed by students Andrew Chase-Ziolek and Daniel Mouw, Calster is the Calvin equivalent of Napster. Designed for computers running Microsoft Windows, Calster catalogs all the MP3s available on personal computers connected to ResNet and allows searching and downloading of the songs through the Calster client software.

Sparks are flying and racial tensions flaring over plans to redevelop what was once Woodland Skating Center. In a two-hour meeting of Grand Rapids’ Zoning Board of Appeals last Thursday, the two sides met to argue their cases — one claiming race was not an issue and the other claiming it was the only issue.
