It looked like a scene straight from Prism in the late
60s.
Last Thursday, a hundred students gathered on the lawn
in front of President Gaylen Bykers office in the
Spoelhof Center. Some sat in circles, talking, others painted
poster paper with a circular Reconsider logo.

After three years, Calvin is ending its contract with
ServiceMaster, the company it had hired to oversee the
Physical Plant.
In 1998, Calvin handed over the position of Director
of the Physical Plant to ServiceMaster, with the hope
that the company would help Calvin improve housekeeping
and custodial care of buildings. The college signed a
3-year contract, which it will not renew this year.

Calvins biennial celebration of the written word,
the Festival of Faith and Writing, recently announced
its plans for next years festival, including a preliminary
list of guests scheduled to appear.
Included in the plans are a number of changes, both in
the structure and subjects of the event and its location.
For the first time, the festival will cover film and theatre,
and a new play will debut here at Calvin. In addition,
the three main evening lectures will be held at Sunshine
Community Church instead of the Fieldhouse as in previous
years.

A little over a year ago, Calvin College became home
to a functioning state-of-the-art animal research facility.
The West Michigan Regional Laboratory (WMRL), located
on the basement floor of the DeVries Hall of Science,
is used for research and education.
