What's Going On

This weekend there are many things to do, so there is no reason to sit in your room and watch reruns of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.

Today Cokes and Clubs is held in the Library Lounge from 9:30-1:30 p.m. Go and sign up for student organizations and get involved. Speaking of student organizations, the Campus Choir is looking for Tenors and Basses for this semester. Contact Dr. John Witvliet at ext. 6806 or email him at jwitvlie@calvin.edu.

For intellectual stimulation, Dr. Willie Jennings is speaking today at 3:30 p.m. in the Gezon Auditorium. He will lecture on “The Color of the Mind: Race, Christian Discipleship, and the Intellectual Life.” Jennings is Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology and Black Church/African American Studies at Duke Divinity School. All are invited and refreshments are provided.

Also today is an engaging lecture at 3:30 p.m. by Dr. Nicholas Wolterstorff (Yale University). He will speak on “How Calvin Fathered the Renaissance in Christian Philosophy.” The event is sponsored by the Calvin College Philosophy Department and is sure to be revealing.

Tonight at 8 p.m. is Air Band! Come see Calvin students competing in getting their lip-syncing groove on. Tickets are $4 at the FAC Box Office.

Tomorrow at 8 p.m., the Student Activities Office is bringing musical act Monk (Ric Hordinski of Over the Rhine) with special guest Denison Witmer to the Gezon Auditorium. Tickets are $3: cheap!

If you are not going to the Monk show, check-out the Film Arts Committee’s (FAC) screening of Trainspotting Saturday. The film begins at 8:03 p.m. in the Commons Lecture Hall. The tea is free along with the post-film discussion. If you want your original film screened, the FAC is now accepting applications for the Second Annual Calvin Student Video Festival. Applications and other information can be found outside the Student Senate Office.

Listen to rhymes and lyrical wonderment every Wednesday in the Cave Café. All shows begin at 8:30 p.m. and free coffee is served. It’s a perfect mid-week study break.
