The Student Life Committee (SLC) has abandoned the idea
of banning smoking at Calvin, although no final proposal
has yet been decided upon.
Four student members of the SLC drafted a letter to Faculty
Senate proposing that smoking be limited to four areas.
That letter was discussed and proofread at the SLC meeting
last Monday, and is currently being reworked. It will be
examined again at the next meeting.

Eye on MOSES - the latest from the struggle over
the statue |
 |
Originally
when the Moses statue was returned to Calvin, the administration
and alumni challenged the student body to liberate it from
its captivity. We were told there were two rules concerning
the statue:
- The
statue shall remain on-campus.
- It
shall be displayed throughout the year.
In our
recent attempts to obtain the statue, both instances have
ended with the administration and alumni cowardly removing
the statue from campus. It is our opinion that if the tradition
of Moses is to return to Calvin, the alumni and administration
should follow their own rules and keep the statue on campus.
In retaliation
for these hypocritical actions by the alumni and administration,
we have taken it upon ourselves to obtain any Moses that
we discover on-campus, including an older Moses statue,
which will be held until the rules have been complied with
in a quick and timely fashion.
