Go out this weekend and the next. For some reason there is never a week where there is not something going on.
The Student Activities Board is still moving musicians through Calvin and into students ears. Fernando Ortega with guests Michelle Tumes and Andrew Peterson. will be playing this Tuesday October 3 at 7 p.m. in the FAC for only $3.Ortega is a Christian Contemporary folk music. Tumes and Peterson are semi-rocky folk artists who will fit in quite nicely with the evening of music.
The Student Activities Board is also bringing Project 86 to the Commons Dining Hall Friday, September 29. They are a punk rock quartet on Tooth and Nail records and are sure to hammer on the audience; get ready to slam. The show starts at 8 p.m. for $2.
Go see a film in the Commons Lecture Hall. This week the Film Arts Committee is showing Cookies Fortune. The film incorporates crime and truth all in a small town. The film starts at 8:03 p.m., discussion follows and is always free.
The UICA will be showing The Filth and the Fury, a documentary about the Sex Pistols (see article). Showings are Friday and Saturday September 29-30, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. On Saturday there is a matinee at 4 p.m.
Looking on to October at the UICA: Wednesday, October 4 at 7 p.m. New York artist Sue Coe will be giving a slide-lecture/presentation entitled Small Collateral Damage. It is a presentation of controversial political and social issues in the UICA Theatre. She is a printmaker who uses mixed media, graphite and collage.
On Wednesday, October 4 at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. at the UICA is A Celebration of African American Artists which is a screening of half-hour documentaries of five renowned (as the title implies) African-American artists. |
